Mustang's Michele Autry: Mom of the Month – Presented by INTEGRIS Erin Balzer, DO – IFC Mustang – Family Medicine with special interest in Peds
Mustang High School junior Paige Autry is a varsity cheerleader, as well as an all-star cheerleader at Tribe Cheer – and her biggest cheerleader is her mom, Michele Autry.
“You will find me at every event where my kid is involved,” Michele said. “If Paige is cheering, I will be there. That has included football, basketball, wrestling as well as all cheer competitions both school and competitive. Sometimes the schedule is hectic, but I don’t mind.”
Participating as much as possible in Paige’s athletics is Michele’s way of telling her daughter that she cherishes Paige’s successes and achievements, Michele said.
“Being involved in the Paige’s activities lets her know that she is a priority to me. Also, it allows me the opportunity to get to know her team members, their parents and the coaches,” Michele said. “We are all one big cheer family.”
Michele makes sure to spend time with her cheer family, too, as the treasurer of the Mustang High School cheer booster club, she said. She’s participated in that organization since Paige was in middle school.
Michele’s support for her daughter’s cheer squad is emblematic of the community in which they live. Michele called the small community of Mustang a friendly and welcoming place where everyone helped everyone.
“My family moved to Mustang eight years ago, and I was blown away at the level of community involvement. Mustang residents and businesses love to support one another in all aspects,” Michele said. “You just don’t see that every day.”
When she isn’t cheering on Paige, Michele is a certified public accountant at a local accounting firm in Oklahoma City, she said.
Michele also handles the family’s animals, which include two donkeys, one pony, 10 chickens, three ducks, and two dogs.
“Also, I won’t turn down a good binge-worthy Netflix series,” she added.
