Edmond Santa Fe's Rhett Hughes - Athlete Spotlight Presented By Iron Nation Harley-Davidson
The city of Edmond has become well known for its high school golf. Edmond Santa Fe product Rhett Hughes was looking forward to a chance at taking on the best in the state this year, but as we all know, that will not happen. However, Hughes is only a freshman and will have plenty of opportunities in the future.
“The thing I love about my team is that we have fun with each other, and outside of golf we are still friends and hang out together,” said Hughes. “The thing I love most about representing my school is that in the past, we have had a few good players, but never won state, and I love knowing that these next few years we will have a really good chance to compete as a team, and nobody will believe it until we actually do it.”
In school, Hughes is just as focused on making good grades as he is shooting below par. “My favorite subject in school is Biology, but my favorite teacher is my Pre-AP English teacher, Mrs. Ledbetter, because she makes us feel welcomed. She also likes communicating with us and making sure we get the help we need,” said Hughes. “Since school is online now, it gives me a lot more time to go to the golf course. Now me, my dad, and my brother are having family tournaments, which are three days long and 18 holes and day. The winner is the family champion and wins a prize.”
Hughes has big plans for his future once his high school career comes to an end. “After I graduate I want to go to college to play golf at Arizona State University or Alabama University. I also want to be a starter all four years,” said Hughes.
With the school year coming to an end, Hughes wanted to say thank you to a few important people in his life.
“I want to thank my dad, for always helping me with my game even though we get mad at each other sometimes, and my brother for pushing me to be great. I want to thank my coach for noticing my potential,” said Hughes.
