Throughout an athlete’s life, there can be a variety of people that are an influence on their life. Whether it is someone that they watch play professional sports or just someone that is part of their everyday life, these influencers help shape who that person becomes.
Luke Winslow says that he has three people in his life that fit that bill. “Roy Wyckoff, my summer league coach, Heath Kufahl, my high school coach, and my grandfather have all three impacted my life,” Winslow said. “Coach Wyckoff pushed and motivated me to work on my game year-round. He was willingly to spend extra time with me to develop my ball handling and shooting skills. Coach Kufahl challenges me to grow my faith in Christ and my relationship with my teammates. He reminds me that there is more to basketball than just playing the game. And lastly, my grandfather shared many stories with me about his high school and college basketball careers.  He challenged me to give maximum effort at all times. He talked to me about outsmarting my opponents.”
Winslow is a senior at Christian Heritage Academy, where he is a multi-sport athlete. He is a member of the basketball, tennis, and golf teams.
There have been a lot of great moments that Luke has experienced during his career, but he says there is one memory that stands out the best. “We won the Area consolation final and made it to the state tournament my sophomore year,” he said. “We played so well as a team throughout the playoffs.”
The success that Winslow has experienced over his career has not come without work. “All of my coaches have motivated me to work hard in every practice and on my own,” he said. “To excel, you have to put in the work year-round. I am fortunate that I have always loved to compete. The hours of work are rewarded with success.”
Luke is also a member of a club called Fire at CHA. “It is a bible devotional group where we challenge each other to grow stronger in our faith in Jesus.”
