Damian Kline is playing in his final season as a high school basketball player. While he has put in the hard work to become a better player, he also knows that he would not be the athlete he is today without the people he has been surrounded by at Southmoore. “As I start my senior season, it makes me realize how blessed I have been and I am to be a part of such an amazing program,” he said. “I have learned from great coaches and built relationships with my teammates, which will forever be a part of my life. The guys before me taught me what it is to be a leader and I hope to do the same for this team. I am focused and excited for what this season holds.”

Kline, who plays point guard for the Sabercats, says that he has a couple of favorite memories from his basketball career. “My favorite was coming back after breaking my ankle and earning a starting position during my sophomore year,” he said. “That season our team made it to the state semifinals. My junior season, we again made it to the state tournament, but we weren’t able to play due to the pandemic.”

Throughout his life, Damian says that there have been some people that have been influences on his life. Out of all of them, there have been a few that have made a great impact. “My father, Neco Bowen, is a role model for me to look up to,” he said. “He has taught me to push myself and to always do more. He has held me accountable and keeps me focused on my goals. His example that he shows through his self-discipline of being focused and reaching his goals is a big influence in my life. My mom, Brandi Simon, is one of my biggest fans and supporters.”

Working to become the athlete that he is today may not have been easy, but Kline says that it is what you have to do in order to be your best. “It takes a lot to be successful,” he said. “I have had to be disciplined to spend the time working on my game as an individual, as well as understanding and working as a team with my teammates.”
